The first time I went to the bar, I was afraid There were animal heads stuck to

the walls

And the bathroom signs were made of deer antlers

And mill-workers drink beer on Friday nights

And sometimes the local principal

Does his Elvis gig for kicks

It’s called the Hot-L cuz the «e» burned out of «hotel»

And I wanted to re-name it the Hot Lesbian

But I didn’t think it would go over

Real well.

Hey, this is where I live

And it’s one of those places

You don’t want to blink or else you’ll miss it

And there’s six hundred people living in the town near by

And it’s called Midway, BC

Cuz it’s midway between here and nowhere

My dogs drag home road-kill from the highway

And pile it on the front lawn

Leaving big, old bloodmarks in the snow

And I bought me a cowboy hat

At the Rock Creek Fall Fair, just so I would fit in

But it didn’t really help at all

And in an effort of self-preservation

I took to shaving my legs

Cuz I didn’t want to get confused with an animal

And end up in my neighbour’s deep freeze

And I eat chicken meat at the bar on Wednesday wing nights

And I thought he was swell so he shacked up with me

In my love shack
