Blood Pools -

The blood pools underneath my teeth

As I’m running out of family

Like sand shifting a broken hourglass

And we used to call her America’s Sister

And every time I’m near her I would lose my heart

Faster than you can hear a nickel disappear

Into the cracks where the sun hits the pavement

Look, there’s grass under the black top

And the road leads where it leads

But I know I’m on the right track as long as it leads me back to here

We are ashamed as we sit in silence

Instead we could pluck the strings

Oh how loud we can get when we just believe in what we sing

Blood pools underneath my teeth

My blood pools in vessels unseen

Peel the skin from my limbs

Wash the color from my doubts

I’m still spinning in my mind

Got used to it over time

It’s been bad for a while

It happens all the time

And there’s nothing I would do

To be any other way

Nothing i would change
